AMAROO PARK RACEWAY was the home of many Castrol six Hour races & "was" the best track in NSW . It had tons of atmosphere & was also a fun track to ride [did a few Stay upright course's there ]

Now that Oran Park is closing i.m.o there are no good tracks left in NSW & that includes Eastern Creek.

cheers

For me there is only one track suitable for fast clean motorcycle racing in Australia. Phillip Island, excellant runoffs, great unjualating landscape. Good drive on the main straight is acheived only by starting your raceline sequence from Honda Corner. Variations in track temperature, ambient temperature and wheather conditions. I guess thats why so many teams come out here to do testing during the off season because of all these variations.

Oran Park was OK but very rough off of the raceline.

Wakefield is good, excellant as a spectator venue. Makes for good close racing. I'd love to race it on a 250cc or an old 350cc.

Amaroo wasn't really suitable for modern motorcycle racing especially with the off camber back turn and the railing fence on the outside of the straights although I did see guys using the fence as a burm coming onto the start finish straight quite often.

Eastern Creek is lovely place for your wife to drive her sports car around, you know with the roof folded down.

Bathurst get rid of the concrete and bring back an era. Maybe we could all ride out there and watch TT racing. Bathurst really is an iconic track but rider safety has to come first.

I'm interested to see how this Homebush round of the V8 supercars goes, that could be another great venue for TT racing.

Hey have I told you how much I love TT racing??

How about the Castrol 6 Hour back in the seventies, when the race was won by a Suzuki (GSX1000 I think) and then it was disqualified because the horn had been moved from is standard production position.

I remember that,it was Joe Eastmure on a Suzuki 315 disqualified.
Those 6 hour races at Amaroo Park in the early years were full of controversy.
Don't remember the year but a BMW was outed for having extra spacers in the forks to increase ground clearance & plenty of other bikes were not exactly bog stock either.
It was a great series.

I first spotted my beautiful wife at the Castrol 6 Hour she was working for one of the teams as a lap scorer and time keeper. She looked hot in that team "T"shirt, still does. Anyway!!

The old speedway meetings in the Hunter Valley were always good for a bit of controversy to, the odd punch up off and on the track. As a kid I remeber two guys at Heddon Geta punching and kicking one another during the race and after the race they through their bikes down and continued trading blows. I guess things haven't changed that much in speedway.
